The Plan

Hi. My name is Jen, and I have a problem.  I am a planner.  “How is that a problem?” you might ask.  Well, I often get so caught up in planning that I fail to take action.  I can plan and plan and plan and plan and... you get the idea.  Everyone needs a place to start.  Although it is my intention that this plan will evolve as I go and will require tweaks (not to be confused with twerks) from time to time I still need to wrap my head around a plan of action to get the ball rolling.  The secret here for me is to make the plan a loose set of guidelines so that I can start taking action – not just get so tied up in the details of the plan that nothing ever happens!

The plan:  My regular blog posts will expand on each of these points as I go along.

Happiness:

  1.  Gratitude.  You can quickly do a Google search and find a ga-zillion articles on all of the benefits of having gratitude in your life.  However, give it a moment of thought and you will know yourself how appreciating the things you already have (instead of being envious for what you don’t) will contribute to a person’s happiness.  I ten to take all the wonderful things in my life for granted and get bogged down in looking forward as opposed to enjoying what I already have now.  Which brings #2
  2. Being present.  Living in the here and now.  I will have to work hard at turning off the to-do list in my head to concentrate on the current moment.  Life can whiz by without any notice if we don’t pay attention in the little moments.

  3. Setting up routines and getting organized.  Clutter and mess make me crazy – yet my home always seems to be in a state of disarray.  It occupies too much space in my brain and I get so mad when I can’t find something simple like a sewing needle – or my keys.  I think we will all be happy with regular routines for everything from homework to cleaning to paper work as well as having a proper place for everything and getting rid of the “stuff” taking up space in my home and space in my brain! SIMPLIFY!

Health:

  1. Drink more water.  Again, a Google search will  quickly give you millions of reasons why water will improve your health.  I lack energy and my skin looks dull, apparently water could help with these problems.
  2.  Plan meals and groceries.  I am already pretty good at this but I will share my plans and grocery lists here each week.
  3. Find the joy in my kitchen again – try new recipes, and enjoy feeding my family.
  4. Less sugar, more fruits and veggies. Ya – I might be grumpy for a bit....
  5. Find at least one activity I really enjoy.  Exercise has never been “my thing” but surely there is something that will get me moving.
  6.  Learn more. Do more.  Knowledge is power and all that.
This plan will most certainly change and evolve over time.  I would love to hear what sort of beginning steps are you taking to get on track! Comment below.
